Hello, February!

January was so long (as per usually) but I am so excited for our perfectly square February!

I used to hate February. I don’t know why. I think it was too short and too cold, and Valentine’s Day wasn’t magical enough to counteract all that. Recently, however, I have turned a new leaf. I love February now. I love any opportunity to celebrate love of all kinds. This month, my Aunt Laura is coming to the city, my friend and former roommate KA is coming to the city, and my boyfriend Brenner is coming to the city! So much love to celebrate! I also feel like I have learned so much more about Black History in recent Februarys, which has made that aspect of the month so much more compelling too!

Important dates for February:

  • 2/2: Groundhog Day

  • 2/6: Aunt Laura comes to town!

  • 2/8: My due-date!

  • 2/9: Creative.nyc February Salon

  • 2/13: Brenner comes to town!

  • 2/14: Valentine’s Day

  • 2/16: Presidents’ Day

  • 2/17: Lunar New Year

  • 2/18: Ash Wednesday, start of Lent

  • 2/21: KA comes to town!

For these Calendars, I decided to pull from memories of past Februarys.

When I was a little girl, my mom used to help me and my sister hand-make valentines for our classmates. We would sit at the kitchen table and use construction paper and heart-shaped doilies. I love those memories!

My mom and dad always get me a heart box of chocalates each year, no matter what!

I have been loving going to the art museums and libraries since I moved to NYC. The florals in this calendar (and the doily calendar) are from an art museum. I have also been loving pixel-art and clipping masks and digital collaging.

For those of you that don’t know, I was supposed to be born in February (everyone say “thank you God for an extra 5 weeks of Madden”), so I sometimes like to celebrate my due-date (shoutout February 8) if I feel like my birthday got swept into the holiday chaos. I wanted these to have a bright, party-like feel becuase February was almost my birthday month!

Here is a little extra wallpaper that isn’t a calendar, but I hope that is okay! Bad Bunny included this quote at the end of his Super Bowl halftime show performance and it really spoke to me. Sharing love has always been so important to me and I feel like we could always use the reminder to lead with love, even and especially when faced with hate.
